Yes, I shall try do that (obviously).  I chose to mention it here in 
case I failed to find time (i.e. take time) to do so, to at least share 
it with you guys in a sloppy way.

Ah, thanks for ckarifying.  Indeed I made the wrong assumption that 
ffmpeg was a symlink.

Yes, that would be ideal.  I don't know why MLT chose to invoke the 
binary rather than link against the libraries.  Perhaps due to horrible 
libraries in the past.
