Bug#687988: blender: Fails to display solid objects with r600/gallium3D

Package: blender
Version: 2.63a-1
Severity: important
The latest blender fails to display solid objects, though wireframe
mode displays just fine.
I've attached two screenshots of blender just after startup, with the
stock defaults. In solid mode, the grid and cube are missing entirely,
though the cursor and movement handles are visible. In wireframe mode,
everything is visible. I only see this on Linux; the same version on
Windows and MacOS X does not exhibit this behaviour. Also seen on
Ubuntu:

While I don't have the means to test if this is graphics driver-
specific, I'm using an ATI Radeon HD6870 and the standard Mesa and
DRI/DRM drivers:
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x209)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
Linux ravenclaw 3.2.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Jul 23 02:45:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Kernel modules: radeon ttm drm_kms_helper drm i2c_algo_bit i2c_core power_supply
It's not clear whether this is a bug in Blender or in the video drivers
(either kernel or mesa). However, this issue only appears to affect
blender--all other OpenGL-using programs render perfectly. And the
previous version was certainly capable of rendering a solid cube, which
makes the regression a bit suspicious.
Regards,
Roger
