unfortunately, `unoconv` seems to not work properly in a pbuilder
environment, and even less so on the various build-machines.
doing a bit of research, i've found the following changelog entry for
the "pd-pmpd" package:

so in this package, the decision to build the pdf from source was undone.
hmm.
while i keep trying with various packages (e.g. `antiword`, which
doesn't like UTF-8 when outputting PDFs), i would welcome very much any
*more* hints regarding this problem.
this ought to be a common problem.
