Sorry for chiming in that late, but I'm not sure if I agree with this last line.

Why does ffdiaporama so badly require the -extra- variant? In any
case, this alternative is wrong, as in the installed system, one of
these two will definitely not be useful for the package.

I think the best way to fix this would be to introduce a meta package
that ensures that the -extra- variant is available. However, before
doing so, I want to learn about the use case in more detail before.
