Do you mean Preferences → Video → Accelerated video output (Overlay)?
Yes, just tried that, works fine now.

Xine works fine here, using it as an replacement currently.

Intel here...

Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Also happens with an older Intel GMA 4500 (I think, the one in the T400
Thinkpad), don't have lspci for that at the moment.
