Bug#758876: blender: Freestyle rendering does not work (rendering never finishes)

Package: blender
Version: 2.71+dfsg0-4
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
Freestyle rendering works differently in the Debian-packaged version
of blender compared to the version from the upstream blender.org. In
the upstream version, Freestyle rendering works and produces the expected
result. In the version provided by Debian, enabling Freestyle rendering
causes the render never to finish.
I have been able to reproduce this using the following steps:
1. Start with a new default blender scene (either by starting blender
afresh or by pressing Ctrl N and selecting Reload startup file -- this
assumes the startup file is unaltered).
2. In the properties in the right-hand area below the object outline,
select Render (the camera icon).
3. Check the Freestyle option.
4. Press the Render button or F12.
The default cube will now be rendered, after which blender will start the
Freestyle rendering phase. The status bar at the top of the rendering view
displays "Freestyle: Mesh loading 100%". Blender will stop here and nothing
will happen. Some of the GUI is still working, but new renders cannot be
started, the ongoing render cannot be stopped (using the X button at the
top of the view beside the Render progress bar), and blender cannot be
exited. The only option is to kill it.
Using the prebuilt version downloaded from the upstream web site,
Freestyle rendering finishes correctly using the same steps.
Maybe one of the Debian patches could have caused this?
Thanks,
