That said, even with the git version, when playing the DVD in vlc, vlc is 
loosing track of the point in time inside the video and loosing sound time 
and again. So it's quite cumbersome to watch DVDs in vlc.

Alas, I have not found any other software yet, where watchin DVDs is 
possible in Debian. Current mplayer from jessie is only showing a 
black window and mpv doesn't seem to be able to find the beginning of the 
movie...

Haven't checked with other players yet.
