The post-* hook there was just Yet Another copy of the original one which
seemed to be how most of them were made. (In fiddling with this at the CIA-

it would be great to switch over to a centrally managed version of the hook
script / things it calls. We don't do embedded copies of code in packages
because it's silly and I'm sure the same applies to multiple copies of hook
scripts :)

The old version of the mailer script called from the hook script could only
talk to CIA and not to KGB and our current script just deals with that in
the most expedient way available at the time. If we've now got a good
solution as opposed to an expedient solution, then switching over is most
definitely worthwhile. (I recall there was a mess of symlinks and .old or
.bak versions of these scripts kicking around on alioth too; decrufting is
most welcome.)
