The variables are CMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS, CMAKE_MODULE_LINKER_FLAGS
and CMAKE_SHARED_LINKER_FLAGS.

You should probably do the same with the cflags CMAKE_C_FLAGS and
CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS instead of patching the CMakeLists.txt.
