Does this mean that downgrading to 0.3.8-1 fixes the problem? There haven't been
any changess to the vaapi code in 0.3.9, so I suspect this may not be mpv's
fault.

In particular, the most recent libav in sid/testing is supposed to fix a
vaapi-related bug (#745655), what version of libavcodec54/libavformat54/etc...
are you using? Does it get better if you upgrade/downgrade to a different
version?
