Bug#806851: VLC doesn't run with root user

Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.0~rc2-2+deb8u1
When I invoke vlc as the root user, the following error message is written
to stderr.
VLC is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry.
If you need to use real-time priorities and/or privileged TCP ports
you can use vlc-wrapper (make sure it is Set-UID root and
cannot be run by non-trusted users first).
This makes it quite difficult to work with on single-user machines where
root is the main account. My suggestion involves modifying it to work with
non-root users, which seems like it could be done by defining
ALLOW_RUN_AS_ROOT during compilation.
