That would explain why the mail didn't go to the list.

I doubt that very much, because for those preferring Libav there is a high
incentive to state this in order to prevent the transition to FFmpeg, while
there is not much incentive to say something like "I have no preference".

So how do you suggest to try harder without annoying them?
