Thanks for the info.

I did notice that behaviour of the fltk static libraries being linked
in when I did a local build in Ubuntu Vivid.
It took me a while to figure out where the libpng and libjpg
dependencies were coming from.

I do not see that behaviour now in Ubuntu Wily and Debian Unstable.
