Bug#833722: ffmpeg: can hear music but no sound/dialogs from movie

just a random thought (without even trying to reproduce the problem):

could it be that you have a multichannel soundcard (e.g. one that is
capable of playing back 5.1 channels), but you only have connected two
channels?
chances are that the dialog signals are sent to some unconnected
speakers, thus you don't hear them.

which audio API are you using (jack, pulse, alsa,...).

also, do you have any ffmpeg configs (presets)?
