Bug#885606: crash at startup: double free or corruption

Dear Maintainer,

The latest version of kodi crashes at immediately after startup for me.
It gets as far as showing the splash screen for about a second, then it
dumps me back to login screen.

   * What led up to the situation?
     running apt-get dist-upgrade
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
     downgrading all kodi packages to 2:17.3+dfsg1-5
   * What was the outcome of this action?
     kodi no longer crashes
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
     not having to downgrade packages :)

The normal kodi crashlog was completely unhelpful in providing useful
information, so I peeled back all the layers of shell and I've been able
to get some more information by using this incantation:

  exec > /tmp/satyr.out
  exec 2> /tmp/satyr.err
  exec /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/kodi/kodi.bin --standalone

I haven't been able to get more symbol information -- packages
libc6-dbg, kodi-bin-dbgsym and libcdio17-dbgsym are installed but I get
the same symbol information with or without.
