This same issue has been raised in relation to easytag as well. It boils
down to the system selecting a random handler for a specific MIME type
if there is no default set.

IMO your DE should be setting a suitable default file manager which
users could then override if they want. What DE are you running?

That would work, but would then prevent "Open With" working with
audacious on directories. In your case you can workaround this by
setting the default yourself with "xdg-mime default XXX inode/directory"
where XXX is the name of the desktop file you want to handle
directories. What we really need is a way to prioritize MIME type
associations, but I don't think that's possible at the moment.
