Girst hit I got web-searching for "kodi framebuffer" was a discussion 
around "git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/kodi-c2-fb.git". That git 
has at its heart the configure options "--disable-x11 --enable-gles".

Debian kodi package has those options reversed.

So it seems you need to recompile the kodi package...
