tl;dr: I’m working on *all* MuseScore soundfont issues.

turns out I was right and it happened.

First, I realised that SF3 cannot be “source” because it’s
compressed using a lossy algorithm, which is why I packaged
the soundfont separately. (As a side effect, I raised the
Vorbis quality of the SF3 in Debian a bit because of user
reports of audible artefacts in the one shipped by MuseScore.)

Second, as of today, MuseScore 2.2 and up will use their new
soundfont MS_General, although FluidR3Mono_GM v3.212 is con‐
sidered identical to MS_General v0.0. (They fucked up though
and don’t have the SF2 for v3.212 so we’ll just stick to the
v3.215 I already uploaded.)

I will now do the following:

• make fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont ship a symlink
  MS_General.sf3@ -> FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3
• make the upcoming uploads of musescore depend on a high
enough version of fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont as alternative
  to the MS_General soundfont
• package MS_General separately once it reaches a stable release
(it’s currently being issued as alpha test versions)
• keep fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont in the archive
• continue advising the MuseScore team upstream about
legal issues (I’ve already reached some successes with that)

In short: I’m on it and have everything I need.

bye,
