Package: devede
Version: 4.8.0-1
Severity: minor
Dear Maintainer,
When setting up custom chapters in a video file (in the Files list, after having
selected a file, click on Properties, then in the General tab you have "Manual
chapter list (split by comma in mm:ss format)"), the precise format to specify
is very confusing:
- When providing a custom list of chapters, if a chapter is longer than the
value of the previous item "Size (in minutes) for each chapter", then
apparently the gaps are cut. E.g., if you provide "10:00,20:00" as custom
chapters and the size is "5" then a chapter gets inserted at "15:00". This is
not especially intuitive and not explained anywhere.
So when manual chapter breaks are provided they should not be automatically
split like this, or at least it should be clearly explained.
- For positions after the one-hour mark, you need to describe them, e.g., as
"64:42", not "1:04:42". If you provide them as "1:04:42" then it is silently
parsed as "1:04" ignoring the ":42". This is not clearly explained. Also, it
seems like chapters beyond the 1:20:00 mark are ignored.
IMO the best fix would be to accept values such as "1:04:42", and in any case
the contents of the field should be parsed and validated to avoid mysterious
failures.
(By the way, there is a possible workaround to these problems but it's really
ugly: start producing the DVD, then pkill -STOP devede, edit
xml_data/dvdauthor.xml to change the chapter list, then pkill -CONT devede.)
Best,
