It's indeed a (known) issue with vserver, and because I don't have a
running vserver environment I'm totally unable to reproduce it.

Forwarding this bug to the MySQL bug tracking system doesn't make sense
without making sure that this bug also affects 5.0.51a. Could you please
try to reproduce this issue with 5.0.51a, which is also available for
etch from backports.org?
