Hello,
I had the same issue after upgrading a box from etch to lenny.
The cause of the failure is a mismatch between the english translation
messages and the mysqld binary. If I run mysqld by hand I get this
error:
Error message file '/usr/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys' had only
472 error messages, but it should contain at least 475 error messages.
Check that the above file is the right version for this program!
The faulty version is 5.0.51a-24. The latest package from etch (version
5.0.32-7etch8) works just fine, and I had to pin it until this issue
gets fixed in lenny.
Regards,
Cristi
