Well, if I mounted the filesystem at say /srv/mysql, then symlinked
/var/lib/mysql to /srv/mysql, there would be a lost+found problem, I
believe. I suppose I could have mounted it at /srv/mysql and then
created /srv/mysql/db and them symlinked to there. Just feels rather
roundabout. But if that's the supported way to do it, I can change it to
that way.

I normally just figure if I want X on its own partition, mount the
partition there; that strikes me as the Unix way to do things.

README.Debian contains no advice (at least not that I see) on how to
store your databases on a separate partition.

Yeah, here is the mail log:

    2011-01-17 12:40:33 1Pet49-000261-8K ** olaf at xwis.net R=dnslookup
T=remote_smtp: SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:
host xwis.net [88.198.24.17]: 550 Spam detection software has
identified this incoming email as spam.

Then the bounce message got treated a spam by my spam filter :-( I've
fixed my side's spam filter, but just in case, I've sent this to the
non-quiet BTS address. Apologies in advance if you get two copies.
