Hi, the upgrade was done on Feb 2, 2011. The logs
of that are attached as dpkg.log.2.gz

I also attached dpkg.log.1 and dpkg.log,
which is everything of what happened
after that.

The commands that I executed today, when I found
that my website wasn't working, I couldn't login
with myphpadmin and that mysqld wasn't running
were:

>history | grep mysql
   84 which mysqld
   87 apt-file search mysqld
   88 dpkg -l | grep mysql
   94 dpkg -l | grep mysql
   95 apt-get mysqld
   96 apt-file search mysqld
   97 apt-get install mysql-server-5.1 mysql-client-5.1
   99 mysqladmin version
  100 mysqladmin variables
  101 mysqladmin -h `hostname` version variables
102 mysqladmin -h localhost version variables
  103 mysqladmin -h localhost --port=3306 version
  104 mysqladmin -h 192.168.2.2 version
  105 mysqladmin -h 127.0.0.1 version
  106 mysqladmin --protocol=SOCKET --socket=/tmp/mysql.sock version
  121 apt-get install mysql-server-5.1 mysql-client-5.1
  122 apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1
  124 mysqlreport
  126 mysqlshow
  127 mysqlcheck
  128 man mysqladmin
  129 mysqladmin password ********

after which I could login with myphpadmin and found
that all data was just gone.

PS The part that didn't go flawless about the upgrade was
that it seemed I couldn't reboot anymore. Later I discovered
that my video stopped given a signal... I fixed that by
booting an older kernel and black listing a kernel module.
This was unrelated to mysql thus. After this I could boot
the new kernel.
