I have tracked this down to one file. This can be excluded from the 
mysql-server-5.5 install. I expect also to be able to confim  and verify 
fixed in a squeeze chroot.

I am also cloning this bug report into a wishlist bit.
It seems to me plugin examples should:
1.) be in souce code form
2.) be in the libmysqlclient-dev package
3.) be self contained and self-documented
4.) come with flying pigs as standard
