[debian-mysql] Bug#678850: mysql-server-5.1 upgrade fails, leaving package unconfigured

I have tried to upgrade to mysql-server-5.1.  Configuration of the package
fails due to a dependency issue.  And now I cannot get mysql client or any
previously working interfaces to mysql to connect to the server.
