[debian-mysql] mysql workbench

I have a question though. If i am running kubuntu, can i still help with 
packaging stuff such as mysql workbench for instance for debian, for 
instance creating packages in a launchpad ppa of newer versions of 
workbench which get released between one debian / ubuntu release and the 
next or would I need to be on a debian machine?
