Sorry, I don't know the solutions. However I read about you using
libperconaserverclient etc and for those parts what you do seem OK.

Just a check: have you noticed the page
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/MySQL/MariaDBPlan or did you just copy
changes reading the sources of my MariaDB packages?

It's good that we get this packaging work synchronized. Given enough
resources Debian should be able to ship all of the major MySQL
variants, technically there should be no show stoppers.

PS. MariaDB 5.5 has been in the NEW queue since end of September..
