Please use the backportpackage tool in the ubuntu-dev-tools package -
this is in Debian as well; build your source package as normal then:

   backportpackage -u ppa:mysql-ubuntu/mariadb -d precise -r
<source_package>.dsc

This will create an appropriate backported verion numbered package and
upload it to the PPA I created earlier today.  I would suggest that we
delete the package you uploaded earlier today as it would fit well
from a versioning perpsective.

Note that you can't upload the same version of a package twice; so you
would need to use the '-S ~ppaX' option to bump the version number if
you need to upload a new version to the PPA.
