[debian-mysql] Packages dependent on MySQL

Hi James,

I wish to start a discussion related to dependency of various other
packages, in Debian 7.0 and Ubuntu 14.04 repository, on actual MySQL
packages. IIUC, the recent implementation of virtual packages would
remain ineffective until all these packages start depending on the
virtual package provided by the actual packages. So, going forward it
looks necessary that this transition from actual package to virtual
package happens asap to allow the non-default MySQL packages to be
installed along with other packages from the native repo.

A list of all depending packages is attached here for quick ref. Looking
at the count of packages, this transition may require considerable
amount of effort. I would like to request for advice on accelerating
this transition for everyone to benefit. Generally, how are such
repository wide transitions brought in effect ?
