I don't have --syslog set, and Mysql logs through syslog just fine. The
log entries end up in /var/log/daemon.log, as set on line 29 of the init
script, "ERR_LOGGER="logger -p daemon.err -t /etc/init.d/mysql -i"". Are
you certain you are not getting log output there?
