Dear Maintainer,

Recent versions of MariaDB add this line at the beginning of dumps:
/*M!999999\- enable the sandbox mode */ 

When trying to import such a dump with the version of mariadb-client in Debian stable, it fails with this error:
Query failed. Rerun with --debug to see any error message. ERROR at line 1: Unknown command '\-'.
