in an open source project for free, you should be prepared to do
debugging yourself too.

What versions were you running on both the dumper and importer side?

Could your issue be related to the one mentioned in this MariaDB
1:11.8.3-1 changelog entry?

  * New upstream release includes fix for MDEV-36815 that yielded "ERROR 1267
    (HY000): Illegal mix of collations" on some systems when restarting the
    MariaDB service in Debian (Closes: #1104533)
