Hello,

Bug #1151058 in mariadb reported by you has been fixed in the
Git repository and is awaiting an upload. You can see the commit
message below and you can check the diff of the fix at:

https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/commit/f80e79567bc21ceb6310befa03120c2141ee2f32

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop mariadb.socket during upgrades (Closes: #1151058)

Upstream commit 9fa3f51f (MDEV-38313) in 10.11.18 added an [Install]
section to mariadb.socket, so the debhelper compat 10 packaging enabled the
socket, which is then active after a reboot. !171 stopped that for new
installs, but on systems that ran 10.11.18 it stays enabled. On upgrades, a
client connecting after the service was stopped makes systemd start the
server again in the middle of the upgrade, and with SendSIGKILL=no stopping
it can then block the upgrade.

Stop the socket in preinst before the service, and start it again in
postinst only if it was active. If a client already started the server via
the socket, e.g. after the 10.11.18 prerm stopped the service, wait for it
to be up before stopping it, as stopping it while still starting hangs.
Postinst likewise starts the service and waits for it before the service
restart added by debhelper. If preinst fails, the socket is restored there.

Add autopkgtest upgrade-socket-activation covering these cases, a disabled
socket and a fresh install.
