can you try the latest version in sid (2:1.3-0+pre6)?  it fixes a couple
init-script related problems.

the version in sid should be trickling its way into sid in 3 days,
assuming that the builds complete for the ports that are lagging behind
right now.  if you're patient, you can just wait for it to come in,
but since it has no new dependencies compared to the version currently
in testing, you should be able to download the deb and install it with
no ill effect.
