hey,
after having revisited this report while doing some housecleaning, i
feel it should be closed. =20
first, after having read over the problem again, it seems that the
problem was actually in the adduser utility rather than nagios:
> chage: can't open shadow password fileadduser: `/usr/bin/chage -M 99999
nagios doesn't call chage, which was actually called by adduser. why
adduser wasn't able to cope with the non-existance of the shadow file
may never be known, but there was nothing nagios could have done.
that, combined with the revelations about skipping base-config make me
think that this doesn't affect nagios so i'll be closing the bug.
thanks,
sean
