let's just say i'm very skeptical of the benefits of doing so,
especially given the limited resources (maintainer-power) available.

i have no problem with them co-existing (in the archive) for some period
of time, but given the fact that upstream will probably pull the plug
on 1.x before etch is out, i'd rather not get stuck maintaining it for
the long haul if at all possible.  nagios ages much better than some
of the other web applications i've seen, but still...

but co-existing installed on the same system just doesn't seem to get
anyone anything.  re-using the same configuration files, plugins, and
scripts, sure, that would be great... but otherwise, i'd like to
see some rationale for why.
