[Pkg-nagios-devel] splitting nagios2-daemon and nagios2-cgi?

Hi,

had a beering last night, and besides a lot of other things we
discussed nagios2. The guy I was beering with is a huge fan of passive
checks, and would like to have a scheduler to run on the host
delivering the passive checks to Nagios.

I came up with the idea to use a nagios daemon itself on the host as
scheduler.

To make this easy to do, it is probably be necessary to separate the
cgis from the nagios daemon to avoid pulling in web server and other
cgi dependencies.

In my imagination, one would have nagios2-daemon and nagios2-cgi
packages, with the nagios2 package depending on both of them. That
way, one could install the daemon without the cgi while still
preserving compatibility for existing installations.

What do you think about this? How does the announcement that nagios 3
will not have CGIs any more (unloading the development burden on the
community) fit into this scheme?

Please comment.

Greetings
Marc
