Installing pre-built packages eases the way Icinga got and gets deployed in the Debian world. 
Providing the packages and unifying the upgrade path helps us a lot focusing on development. 
Spreading the idea of Icinga being a project for and by the community, Debian also helps in finding new supporters, contributors and developers :-)

Special thanks to Alexander Wirt for his continuous work on the packages and bringing Icinga as open source monitoring system to the Debian community.
