[Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#678350: icinga-web: should probably not depend on icinga-idoutils

Package: icinga-web
Version: 1.7.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi.

Maybe I got something wrong, but AFAIU, icinga-web makes read-only connections
to the icinga DB which in turn is populated by icinga-idoutils, right?

Now in principle, it seems to be possible for that DB being on any host.

Depending on icinga-idoutils does not really force you to use the icinga DB
from the same host with icinga-web,.. and it does not force you to have the
idoutils from that package actually run on the host (just disable the init
script).
But nevertheless, IMHO, it shouldn't be necessary to have that "fake" package
installed in these scenarios.

Even if code was really used from icinga-idoutils (and this is not just to
"get" the database available).... that code should then probably split of
to some icinga-idoutils-common package or so.

Actually I'd even vote against having icinga-idoutils suggested/recommended
as package, just for the sake of making the icinga DB available.
About for the same reasons why icinga-idoutils itself doesn't
depend/suggest/recommend postgresql or mysql servers.

Cheers,
Chris.
