i would raise severity as such a change without copying the old retained 
data will cause possible regression. you will lose state history, 
retained states as well as the scheduling queue and other valuable 
information you would expect to behave normally after an upgrade.

see my changes on the icinga.spec for the rpms on repoforge, where i've 
added such an upgrade path in order to stay safe.

don't do that. this will break your history (except log archives).


i wasn't aware that the location changed in debian as well, otherwise i 
would have alerted sooner. possibly a fix for backports is needed then 
as well.
