You're very welcome to maintain the package within in the team. There 
will be a few extra eyes on your package, but don't expect too much as 
many other teams this one is understaffed. You'll remain responsible for 
packaging new upstream releases and acting on bugreports.

Changing the Maintainer should only happen after the git repo is moved 
to nagios-team namespace. Only owners can transfer projects to a another 
namespace so a new repo will need to be created in nagios-team namespace 
if you intend to maintain the package within the team.

If you decide to maintain the package within the team, beware that there 
is no codified team policy. Be sure to subscribe to pkg-nagios-devel [0] 
and pkg-nagios-changes mailinglist, the former is used as the Maintainer 
address and get bugreports and other Maintainer notifications, the 
latter gets notifications for the VCS changes.
