Since it's a Perl testsuite you may be able to use the pkg-perl 
infrastructure:

  https://perl-team.pages.debian.net/autopkgtest.html

The testsuite is not run during the build, nor does upstream have CI 
configured to use the testsuite, the value of the testsuite is 
questionable because of that.

Setting up some custom crafted logfiles with associated configuration to 
ensure that patterns trigger the expected status could suffice.
