Hi Hector,

Big thanks for the thorough analysis of the bug. It is very helpful!
My apologies for not thinking that fix through well enough at the time.
I was working on making afpd gradually thread safe for future purposes.
Rather than trying to salvage the fix, let me revert it back to the
non-reentrant safe state.

Would you be able to test this patch in your environment?

Never mind the CI failures in the latter.
I need to backport a few updates for the CI jobs to get back to green
in the 4.2 branch.
