Ondrej,
Can you do me a favor and review the 1.18.0-9 tag which contains the
merge for the FTBFS fix, the security patch for the auth-pam module, and
some changes to Copyright (since i'm contributing to the packaging, my
copyright year needed updated) and adds me to Uploaders?
Secondly, if there are no issues with that, can you push this into
ftp-master and provide a dak command that gives me upload access? It
seems that even though I'm on the maintainers list in Salsa, there's
pushback, so if you can back the upload that'd solve many of the problems.
My current goal with 1.18.0-9 now that i was added as maintainer in
Salsa is to get it out and deployed so Testing has a version that works
again. After that's in Testing, I will be pushing to get us onto 1.20.x
because that's the latest stable and far newer than what we have now
(nearly 2.5 years old now) and fixes some of the other concerns about
needing a version bump, etc.
Given that we are now facing NGINX Not In Testing, and are facing a
preliminary full freeze date of Any Day Now, it'd be better to get this
uploaded sooner than later so we have it in testing should a Debian
release happen sooner than later (there were comments that a release
might be coming and emails to devel announce in March that suggested a
full freeze was coming but was not yet announced with a TBD date, so
expediency is warranted here).

I sent such requests literally when they gave me access, and it seems
there may only be one or two individuals driving the package - of which
it's impossibly hard to get one of them to even respond. Last response
I had from Ondrej on the uploaders and team was "Join the maintainers
team" on Salsa, which I did and they granted me access -
https://salsa.debian.org/nginx-team/nginx has the recent work which has
made the team "no longer inactive after a three week break". If this is
not enough to point at me having maintainer access to the VCS for
releasing the packages, then maybe Debian should do some research before
outright rejecting.
I'm happy to wait for one of their people to give me dak access or
sponsor the upload, however keep in mind that after 3 weeks with no
activity AND a merge request that took two weeks to get that would fix
the FTBFS that broke NGINX in Testing to begin with, we're staring at a
"Package is not fit for testing" problem currently that is nearly a
month old and hasn't been fixed yet. (However, given that I've been
making the commits on the Salsa repo that the packaging directly comes
from, I'm not sure if you mean something other than the NGINX Team on
Salsa when you refer to "maintainers" - I have 'Maintainer' access on
the Salsa repo itself that the packaging comes from)
