A ton of progress was made thanks to Jan Mojzis and Jérémy Lal.

libnginx-mod-http-brotli has entered Debian sid:

Previously some security issue was mentioned. I couldn't find any
references. Is this still an issue? If yes, has this been reported upstream?

As for the title of this ticket "Would you please consider replacing
Gzip module with Brotli for compression?" I think replacing gzip would
be highly controversial, complicate any gzip to brotli migration or dual
compatibility, might break some setups and isn't needed at all.

I guess this report has been obsoleted, should be closed and any
remaining security issues, if still relevant should be reported against
libnginx-mod-http-brotli-filter.
