Hello,
I'm having exactly the same problems as reported in #459848. It boils
down to following points:
* m-a is confused and does not seem to find the new version of
nvidia-kernel-source, even after m-a update:
21:11 vincent at tanyaivinco ~ m-a update
21:11 vincent at tanyaivinco ~ m-a build nvidia
[...]
Target package file
/usr/src/modass/nvidia-kernel-2.6.22-3-amd64_100.14.09-1+2.6.22-6_amd64.deb
already
exists, not rebuilding!
21:11 vincent at tanyaivinco ~ dpkg -l nvidia-kernel-source
ii nvidia-kernel-source 169.07-1 NVIDIA binary kernel
module source
However, still more puzzling: m-a li finds it correctly:
21:15 vincent at tanyaivinco ~ m-a li
[...]
nvidia-kernel-source (source) installed (V: 169.07-1):
-- Binary package(s) for kernel(s):
+ (2.6.22-3-amd64):
nvidia-kernel-2.6.22-3-amd64_100.14.09-1+2.6.22-6_amd64.deb
* I'm using m-a as a normal user (with read/write permission to
/usr/src). It has always worked so far.
* even when I symlink /usr/src/nvidia-kernel-source.tar.bz2 to
nvidia-kernel.tar.bz2, and using the -f switch (as m-a fails to
understand there is a newer version) the build fails with:
LD [M] /usr/src/modass/usr_src/modules/nvidia-kernel/nv/nvidia.o
Building modules, stage 2.

This sounds like a very simple permission problem.
Many thanks for maintaining this package, I hope this helps. My kernel
is a standard debian one:
~ uname -a
Linux tanyaivinco 2.6.22-3-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Nov 4 18:18:09 UTC 2007
x86_64 GNU/Linux
Regards,
Vincent
