I couldn't install nvidia-glx-legacy-173xx.  I get the following:

    # aptitude install nvidia-glx-legacy-173xx

I didn't feel comfortable resolving dependencies by hand.

Also, it would be nice if one of the maintainers would give some indication of
the nature of the problem.  The reason this bugs me so much is that I was using
the proprietary driver for TwinView (Xinerama) support.  I'm pretty sure the
open-source "nv" driver doesn't support Xinerama.

I /could/ try to install the proprietary nvidia driver manually, but I was
really hoping the package would get fixed.
