Is this still reproducible with 195.36.31-2 which entered unstable yesterday?

What about gdm/kdm and gnome/kde?

Do you use kernel parameters in the bootloader to set a specific video mode?

What kernel modules are loaded when this behavior occurs?

Try removing all packages related to the free nouveau driver.
