This slowdown is not specific to the GeForce 8200. I noticed the same
thing with a Quadro FX 1800 and a Quadro FX 770M. Downgrading xorg and
nvidia to the ones in stable gets the performance back. On one of them,
glxgears-i-know-its-not-a-benchmark went from 8500FPS to 7000FPS. The
difference is very noticable on extremetuxracer which I used to play in
1920x1200 and which is now painful even in 1024x768.

nouveau is too slow to be an option here (even for regular use, no 3D).
