For some reason I didn't get any more emails about this bug since the
last one I sent.

I just installed nvidia-glx on my netbook (because nouveau stopped
working with kernel 2.6.38) and that started exhibiting the problem too.
My nvidia-glx version is 260.19.44-1. FWIW compositing doesn't make a
difference.
